Widows Weeds is a term used to describe the black crepe clothing that a woman wore while in mourning for the loss of her husband. The mis-spelling in this sampler is intentional, as are the lost stitches along the border.Verse reads: Sacred to the memory of my beloved who past (passed) away to (too) soon on the 13 day of June and I shall wear my widows weeds untill (until) we meet againThe basket at the bottom holds weeds the widow may have picked for her husbands grave.
